'Tis the Season...

For the wretched colds & flu's!!!

Yes, our whole family was down this week with a terrible round of colds, of course this is the byproduct of having children in elementary school isn't it? The upside of this silly cold was I couldn't sleep and yet felt functional and energetic enough to quilt ;)

Giant Granny Panties is complete, binding was done this weekend, I machine bind and I discovered a little trick about machine binding that makes it look very neat and tidy, I am planning on doing a post on that specifically in the near future, stay tuned!

My next project to get done is the baby quilt, I chose to do a disappearing 16 patch, I agree the colors are muted and darker than standard baby quilts but there is a reason behind my madness, this is going to serve as a background rather than the main focus of the quilt.
The piecing is done, all that is left is a border and the applique itself, I think that I may be able to get this done by the end of the week (cross fingers), I am doing a large applique on this top that my oldest daughter is going to help me with, I am not going to tell you what it is yet, I am going to wait until I can take a picture of the finished piece, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

... PSST!...

(I have one stocking complete!)

Moving right along....

So I did mention, that my one year of quilting anniversary is coming up right? I thought with all the giveaways happening, I'd jump on the bandwagon and do an anniversary giveaway! However in looking for a random number generator, I discovered that it costs to use the publishable one ($5 per use... seriously?!) and it's difficult to find a free one that's reliable, understandable or allows you to use the print screen function.  So sod it! No random number generation here, we are going to go completely out into left field and do an essay question that is completely ridiculous and amusing  and I am going to have my children be the judges of the best answer. How much more random can you get? Not to mention, I am not going to require you to "follow" or tweet or do anything to promote my blog ;)  Now the only rule is: only one answer please, so make it your best!

So your amusing and ridiculous question is: It's Christmas Eve and you manage to catch Santa stuck in the chimney in your home (or window.. whatever :D), and you have a naughty little thought while chomping on one of your fabulously baked cookies that you had left out for him just hours before... What is Santa going to have to bribe you with so you'll help free him?

My bribe for you to answer the question:

Some of my favorite Kona Bay Asian print fat quarters and one half yard of that absolutely delicious heron fabric!

Winner will be announced on December 16th :)

  2. Ohhhh the dreaded flu:/ My son has mono, and I'm suspecting me and my daughter may have it too. :( If you cant find a generator that will let you publish the results, you could always take a screen shot of it. Keep in mind I have never used a random generator. But 5 bucks?? that is crazy! as for the bribe? Hmmm, I'd like a Janome 7700! Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. The print screen function is how my laptop takes screen shots :D So yeah, I can understand that people want to protect their work but still $5 bucks for a single use is alot to ask :/

  3. Its a really beautiful giveaway (is it open to anyone?..) I would bribe Santa, for all the lovely modern, bright fabrics that is NOT available here in South Africa, and have a room filled with fabrics, top to bottom :D

  4. To get free, Santa better be bringing me a longarm and Angela Walters to teach me how to use it, in person. Although in truth, I'd probably help him out just so I could use the fire place, it's cold outside!!!

  5. Santa would be stuck in my chimney until he agrees to beam me to all of Bonnie Hunter's public classes in 2013. In reality, this would be the start ot more UFOs than any sane person could ever imagine, but she's SUCH a great teacher I would willingly take on the tasks. Thanks for the idea. Now I'm dreaming of a Santa in my chimney!

  6. Well Santa is caught in the chiminey and I have the chance to bribe him...well, this doesn't happen very often does it ;)...hmmmm...only one bribe and it would be to have Santa's elves because he does have elves, teach me how to stipple and machine quilt to no end because Santa has a slew of elves making all those toys and coverlets and all those gifts, so one of those elves knows how to operate a sewing machine with the "teeth" turned off. :) Give me an elf!

  7. $5 I'd do names in a bag! lol Bribery would be a Studio, cute and completely equipped just out back! But then if he said pretty please I might have to figure out how to push or pull him out! Good thing I'm eating the cookie as he obviously has had one too many!!!

  8. What a lovely thought! Santa stuck in my chimney! I think I would like a cook/maid to take care of all the cooking and cleaning so I could sew and sew and sew!

  9. I'd leave Santa where he is, as it's hot in Australia and he'll help insulate the house:)

  10. Hi, what a good idea for a but of fun to cheer up grey days outside! Santa would only have to remind me that if he remained stuck he wouldn't be able to deliver presents to the children which would make them sad. I would have to help Santa get out then! :-)

  11. Well what a toughy. Aladdin gets three wishes and I always thought narrowing it down to three was way too hard! But one! Okay here it is. A joyous holiday season for myself, my husband and my three girls!

  12. Great idea! Since I read all the comments and got a couple of great ideas it would cost him a lot to get out of my chimney (hope my house won't get too cold while we negotiate): A new fancy Juki for my friend and me, gift cards to all my favorite on-line fabric stores and a magically clean house for the coming year.
Santa probably just struck my house off his list........
That flu of yours sounds quite good to a quilter, still I hope you and yours feel better. And many parents like darker quilts for their babies, they get so much pale stuff.

    1. Exactly! I know with my little ones the quilts that were very light or pastel in colour just didn't go over well, I have 3 quilts left and all of them are in the darker shades. One is denim & dark blues, one is dark green and the other is in varying shades of dark pink and purple.
It worked out nicely, I still have one left for each of them to put away in their keepsake boxes ;)
